Silver Mask Brooch by Sophie Woodrow
Hand forged silver mask made with traditional silversmithing techniques by Bristol based ceramicist Sophie Woodrow.
The face is lightly textured and matted with features picked out in a high shine polish. A tapered piece of wire fastens the brooch to the wearer.
The design is characteristic of Sophie’s figures, she says “My figures are psychological portraits, of the people we might be, to ourselves, for a moment, or from another angle. I am interested particularly in the impression that landscape leaves on us, and the contested boundaries between the landscape of the earth, and the landscape of our imagination.”

At Silver & Steel we love creativity and collaboration in all it’s forms and believe that jewellery is a brilliant way to communicate ideas.
We wanted to explore ways in which different mediums could influence jewellery design so decided to invite 7 wonderful, accomplished artists from Bristol and beyond to translate their ideas into prescious metal with us.
Each artist selected the jewellery processes that would suit their work and with support from Silver & Steel created a small capsule collection.
Each piece is totally one of a kind, crafted by hand in wax and cast, or fabricated using traditional silversmithing techniques.
The collections are exclusive to Silver & Steel and a unique opportunity to have your own piece of wearable art by your favourite artist, made to last a lifetime!
