Gallery

Our beautiful gallery space connects the public with contemporary design. We have the work of our resident designers in one cabinet and then three others for specific jewellery exhibitions which last for 6 months before a fresh curation is brought in. Once things are gone, they are gone!

We aim to platform unique, underrepresented design so you can always find something interesting and fresh in Silver & Steel.

We maximise the use of the long clean walls with carefully curated photography exhibitions and the wall space is bookable if you are a local photographer interested in booking a gallery with regular footfall.

Embedded

Evie Spicer

Evie Spicer is a photographic artist who uses her body as a tool to interact with space, working at the intersections of self-portraiture, landscape and performance. ‘Embedded’ is an introspective, dreamlike series shaped by Celtic mythology and the narrative of the woman as protector of the land. The subject matter exists within both manmade and natural native landscapes, spaces upon which we have imprinted, and which imprint on us in return. Using her body as a tool to interact with space, she delves into the emotive potential of the land. The power dynamics between human and nature, viewer and viewed, are continuously explored through this sequence. Moving cyclically, the powerplay remains unresolved, leaving the audience to decipher it for themselves. Using a combination of staged and candid imagery this evokes a feeling of the uncanny which reflects the inconsistent reality in which we live.

The private view will be held on the 20th of April at 7pm and is open to the public. Come along for wine, chats and photography that takes us towards nature.

This work has also been featured in ‘Paper Geographies’, Format Festival, Arles, France - 2022
